Here's the latest shot of my 1966 Volkswagen 1600 Karmann Ghia, better known as the Type 34. If you've never seen one, that's not surprising - they were never imported to the US, and were rare to begin with - only 49K ever made between 1962 and 1969.
The chassis is the Type 3, as in Squareback, Fastback and Notchback, but the sheet metal (and all the other stuff) is completely unique to the Type 34.

Gorgeous car, I don't think I've ever seen one before!
Welcome to Gay Car Fans.

Nice as ever!
Wimbledon...from the back they look a bit like a Corvair. These cars also have been nicknamed "The Razor's Edge Karmann Ghia" because of their creased sheetmetal (relative to the more popular and softer-styled Type-1 based Karmann Ghia).
That's an awesome project. Keeping it all original or are you contemplating swap?
Ah, thanks for the info gti_matt.
gosh I love aircooled VW's.... really nice!!!!!
I've seen pictures of that Karmann Ghia before but never seen one in person. Cool car.

I like the tall windows. Would be easy to see out of. The KG everybody is familiar with is the one that came after that, right?

No, it surrounded it.
The original Type 1 KG came out in the late 1950s (not sure of the exact year but it's approximately 1957 I believe) and lasted to the 1974 model year with minor head and tail refreshes.
The Type 3 based KG above is a 1960s vehicle. I don't know the exact years on that either but it was a much shorter model run than the original Type 1 KG.

Oh duh...says in the first post 1962-1969 for the Type 3 based KG (aka "Type 34").

I wondered if I'd be the only one wandering over from TheSamba...
In response to the earlier "history lesson," the T-1 Ghia (based off of the '47-79 Beetle, both of which are seen everywhere) was '54-74. Pre '60 ones are now really rare. The T-3 Ghia was '62-69, which coincided with the Type 3's lifespan before the redesign that lasted from '70-74.
I'm speaking as a Type-3 owner, and one who's found himself wanting a ghia recently.
