That is built where?!?
Post up cars with surprising manufacturing origins.

For instance, did you know many U.S.-spec Honda CRVs were made in the UK at Swindon?!?

RE: That is built where?!?
I wonder how many people know that Volkswagen's Type 181 "Thing" was made in Mexico. Even many VW enthusiasts think that VW didn't start selling Mexican-built vehicles here until the late '80s.

And likewise, do people really know that the new Passat is made in the USA? VW certainly isn't making that fact well known, and instead advertises its "German engineering", as they've done with all of their non-German-built (and in some cases not even German-designed!) models.

Only VWs still from Germany are marked "Wolfsburg Edition". Been that way for almost 30 years.

Nope. In 1998 and early 1999, there was the Wolfsburg Edition Mk3 Golf and Jetta -- both made in Mexico. The Mk4 and Mk5 generations had Wolfsburg Edition Jettas, too, again made in Mexico.

And here were all the Wolfsburg Editions in 1989, with the special features that came with each; of these, only the Jetta was actually built in Wolfsburg, Germany, while the Vanagon gets half-credit for being built in Hanover, Germany (right country, wrong town):

And I wonder if anyone ever asked VWoA "What part of Europe is Brazil in?" Sm1

RE: That is built where?!?
Hannover is the wrong town for the name, but still the right town- Busses were built there starting in 1954 (unlike my little square, with an earned Wolfsburg badge). But who would have thought of Hannover as a recognizeable brand like Wolfsburg or Stuttgart?

The Jetta/Golf I didn't know. Wasn't bothered by it either. Makes sense, though. I suppose that's part of why VW didn't do "European Delivery" like most other European brands.

I had a E46 sedan a few years back that was built in Rosslyn, South Africa. And my parents' X3 wasn't actually built by BMW... it was built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria.
